Adult Art Student's Award Leads to Exhibition

A dult art student Andrew Griffiths won the Laurie Williams Abstract Prize at the Stride Open Art Exhibition and the prize included an opportunity to put on a solo exhibition of his work at the Oxmarket Centre of Arts in Chichester this month.

Andrew, who has been studying on evening arts courses at Northbrook College for the last five years, chose to show both abstract and landscape paintings. Art tutors Maggie Tredwell and Marcus Finch attended the exhibition preview night and were delighted with Andrew’s achievements.

As Maggie said, ‘We have both seen Andrew develop as an artist and it is so gratifying to see his paintings exhibited in a professional gallery. His progress has been outstanding and he has shown enthusiasm and dedication to the subject in every course he has attended.’

Andrew is in the final year of the Northbrook Portfolio Programme in Art and Design and will be showing his latest work in his final show at the college in June. His paintings will also be on display in the Adult and Community Learning Student Exhibition at the Heene Gallery in Worthing in July. He intends to continue studying on evening courses at Northbrook College.
