Local Schools and Colleges Will Work Together

Schools and College collaborate P rincipals, Headteachers and Chairs of Governors from Schools and Colleges in our area met at Northbrook College this week to sign a Collaboration Statement of Commitment.

This included Schools and Colleges in Worthing, Littlehampton, Angmering, Lancing, Shoreham and Steyning.

The document states:

‘We are committed to working together, and with other agencies, to provide the best learning and secure the best life chances for all of the young people in our care.’

The statement marks the beginning of a new era for education and training in the region, as the different institutions teaching 11-19 year-olds join together in committing themselves to increasing opportunities and better meeting the needs of young people.

The statement commits the Schools and Colleges to plan together in areas such as new curriculum opportunities, meeting the needs of vulnerable and challenging students and effective transition between School and College with impartial information, advice and guidance.

Peter Corrigan, Principal of Worthing College and Chair of the group said:

“This agreement reflects the significant partnership working already taking place in our area.  The agreement also commits us to work together in the future to improve exam results, the curriculum offer and the skill level of School and College leavers.  It is a very significant development with the potential to improve the life chances of individuals and the economic outlook for our local areas.”

Schools and Colleges signing the agreement include the Shoreham Academy in the east of the area, the Littlehampton Academy in the west and Steyning Grammar School in the north - as well as Worthing’s five high schools, Worthing College and Northbrook College.
