Earn while you learn
Apprenticeships are a combination of job and college. You’ll usually come to college one day a week and the rest of the time be working in the industry you are training in.

Apprentices make things happen. Apprenticeships are for people who want to have the best of both worlds – by earning as well as learning. Working in industry alongside experienced staff means you learn relevant skills fast and put your college training into action. Our apprentices tell us that the training is very very worthwhile – they learn a lot that cannot be learned in the classroom, which enables them to get an early foothold on the career ladder of the trade on their choice. Whether you’re a school-leaver or a little more mature, in a job already and want to gain qualifications to back up your skills or want to carry on learning but with real world experience, an Apprenticeship may well be the answer.
Northbrook has been the top general FE college for Apprentice success rates until 07/08 and since then our success rates have been among the highest in England. We provide support both at work and college to make sure your Apprenticeship works for you.
Apprenticeships can be demanding but the rewards are worth it – when you finish studying, you already have valuable work experience that gives employers the skills they want. Advanced Apprentices also have the option of applying to university courses and several universities in Sussex have pledged to recognise Advanced Apprenticeships as an entry route for relevant courses (download the pledge leaflet here ).
The Apprenticeship Framework includes a technical qualification such as a BTEC or City & Guilds, a work-based qualification NVQ, Functional Skills such as communication, using new technology or working in teams and knowledge of what it means to be an employee.
