Students With Designs on Cricket Club
Students on the one year City & Guilds course in Interior Design at Northbrook College presented proposals for the Broadwater Cricket Club refurbishment to the local council and Club Chairman, Bob Reynolds.
Mr Reynolds and the club are currently looking to redesign the cricket premises in Worthing so that it can move up to the next division. The club contacted Northbrook when they heard that the students were looking for a live project to use for their final course assignment.
For the purpose of the project, the student’s formed mock interior design companies and were required to operate, as they would do professionally, in both their design work and marketing material for their business. Students were given a client brief and specification, complete with a strict budget, to work to. The brief required them to choose and research landmarks, whether local, sporting or worldwide, to incorporate into the designs.
Each company then presented a range of innovative interior design solutions, which were feasible for the club, using a selection of mood boards and furnishing samples.
Club Chairman, Bob Reynolds was bowled over with the designs presented by the students and said ‘We have seen some fantastic ideas for the new club. I cannot wait to show the players all the proposals so that we can start the refurbishment using the chosen design as soon as possible’
The one year vocational design course at Northbrook is very hands on and the live project is a great way to introduce to the students what it would actually be like to work as an interior designer. The students thoroughly enjoyed carrying out the project and said ‘It was really good fun and we definitely learnt a lot doing it.’
Discussions with the council will now take place regarding budgets and fundraising events will be held to raise money towards the designs.
The boards will go on display at the cricket club for the players to view and chose their preferred design. The boards can also be viewed at the End of Year Summer Exhibition held at the College’s West Durrington Campus at the end of June, where the winner of the competition will also be announced.
