Northbrook College Wins NEF Industrial Fellowship Grant
N orthbrook College has been awarded an Industrial Fellowship Grant by the vocational education think-tank, the New Engineering Foundation.
The grant will allow Aeronautical Instructor, Steven Dudley, to spend time in local companies or universities, gaining experience of cutting edge developments in his field. The scheme specifically aims to improve the knowledge and skills of staff within the science, engineering and technology departments of Further Education (FE) colleges. It is designed to help participants bring this experience into the classroom, sharing the latest techniques and technologies with students.
Head of Technology, Adrian Slaughter, said “We are very pleased that the Technology Department at Northbrook College has been recognised by the New Engineering Foundation as a worthwhile organisation to receive the Scholarship. This will help the aeronautical division greatly in keeping up to date with helicopter maintenance. We would like to thank Fast Helicopters for partnering with Northbrook College to make this happen. Steve Dudley has spent a number of years maintaining helicopters while working for BA and now wishes to update his knowledge and take in the latest developments in helicopter maintenance. This is all part of the ongoing CPD programme in the Technology Department aimed at ensuring our students can benefit from up to the minute expertise.”
Sa’ad Medhat, Chief Executive of the NEF, said:
“A few years ago the NEF carried out a major piece of field research which revealed an almost total absence of formal professional development for FE college lecturers in science, engineering and technology. In an industry where things move very fast, lecturers had virtually no exposure to the latest developments in the field. We set up the Industrial Fellowship Scheme in response to this problem. Since then hundreds of FE lecturers across the country have taken part, and thousands of students have benefited. We’re very pleased to welcome Northbrook College to the Fellowship. I am sure that they will find the experience rewarding.”
