Northbrook Sculpture at Goodwood

Student with his sculpture A Northbrook student’s sculpture is being displayed at the prestigious Goodwood sculpture park, where it will be on show among works from world famous artists and sculptors.

Fine Art Degree student, Stuart Slade, entered a competition set by ‘Better Tomorrows’, a not-for-profit company which promotes environmentally friendly behaviour. The challenge was to create a sculpture using recycled materials.

Students from Chichester College, Worthing College and Central Sussex College also submitted work. Northbrook entered three sculptures – one by Stuart Slade, one by Fine Art student Kay Johns and one by a group of Adult Education students taught by Pauline Gluck.

Stuart said of his piece, “It’s ambiguous – maybe some sort of post apocalyptic future.”

Representatives from the four colleges joined the board of directors of Better Tomorrows at Goodwood to present certificates to all the participating students. Wilfred Cass, founder of the sculpture park, gave a speech and after the presentation, the winning sculpture was unveiled to applause.

Last year Stuart made the headlines when his giant spider sculptures caused a stir at the Arundel festival.
