student wearing her t-shirt A Northbrook Design graduate has won a prestigious competition run by the Tate galleries in London. She has been crowned the Young Tate Winner 2009. Kayleigh Doughty, 23, who recently graduated from the Communication Design degree, entered her work into ‘The Pop Life Design Challenge’ run by Young Tate Online and Threadless.com. The challenge was to use the Pop Life exhibition held at the Tate Modern and featured art/artists as inspiration to create an original Pop inspired T-shirt design.

Kayleigh’s design was shorted listed and sent to a panel of Tate judges, including Julia Gruen, Executive Director of The Keith Haring Foundation, Fernando Gutierrez, Graphic Designer behind Tate Pop Life campaign and Michael Windsor-Ungureanu, Graphic Designer, Tate.

The judges said, “This design displays a high level of illustration, skill and innovation. Good humour, irreverence and great colour also marks this design out.”

Kayleigh’s winning design entitled ‘Pop Life Deserves A Toast’ will be posted along with a showcase of the rest of her work on the Tate website, as the featured winner and young artist. Limited edition T-shirts with the print on will also be sold in the four Tate shops and will be on sale just after Christmas.

Kayleigh is currently working with Croydon Council facilitating young people doing street art and has several commissions.
